Training tips from Helen Davies

We’ve caught up with Helen Davies, our Beet It Sport ambassador last July to find out how she was and how she had been keeping busy during lockdown. Helen is a long distance runner who represented GB at the European Championships and England at the Commonwealth Games. She also holds a hat trick of wins at the Brighton Marathon, 2017, 2018, 2019!

Here’s her tips on how you can motivate yourself to keep training during lockdown:

  1. Take the time to focus on weaker areas without the concern of fatigue or adaption issues interrupting training, so working on plyometrics and drills in the garden, making use of garden steps or indoor steps!
  2. Reduce mileage and concentrate on quality rather than quantity. Introduce shorter speed workouts. On easier days enjoy very early morning runs.
  3. Focus on keeping strong and work on strength and conditioning work at home more frequently than you would normally, as you can afford the extra DOMS – strength gains!
