Q&A with Charlie Peters

How did you get involved in Muay Thai?

I started Muay Thai around 17 years old when I had to stop playing rugby for my club. I had done no fighting sport before this; this was my first taste of combat sports and I feel in love with it instantly.

What is your greatest sporting achievement?

Within Muay Thai I would say my greatest achievement was winning 3 different world titles and going into defend one of those titles 5x. Nothing beats that sense of achievement.

What are the reasons behind your decision to train for IRONMAN 70.3 Mallorca?

My dad has done over 17 Ironman races and I really wanted to do one with him before he stopped. When I was younger, we both had a white-collar boxing fight on the same show as each other twice! So, this would be another cool experience to have with him. Also, now I have finished with my fight career it gives me something new to focus towards.

What is the best thing about Muay Thai?

So many amazing things with MT, but what I enjoyed the most was the ‘art’ of fighting. There is a skill to playing the fight game rather than just trying to kill each other. It’s a beautiful sport when you understand it deeply. Also, the use of elbows always brings an exciting buzz to it.

What motivates you to train and compete at the highest level?

I’m not too sure what I can put my motivation down to, for me it’s something I have always had. I enjoy the competition side to it, especially with myself. Trying to get better, trying to improve, trying to beat myself each time. It’s a eutrophic feeling, almost like a drug you want more and more of.

What advice would you give to someone looking to take up Muay Thai seriously?

If you want to take something serious you must submerge yourself into it fully. Live it breathe it. Enjoy the journey and welcome your failures…because there will be A LOT and that’s all part of what makes you the best at it.

If you could be a professional athlete in any other sport, which sport would it be and why?

I sometimes think of this question a lot myself, I’m lucky I got to live the life as a professional fighter. I have always wanted to compete in the Olympics and achieve that gold medal! So maybe something in athletics because as a youngster I was always sporty and fast. Or I would have enjoyed being a professional rugby player, that’s another sport I really really enjoy.

Describe your perfect weekend.

To me it starts with a lay in, time sitting in bed with a coffee and my book then a big training session. Pizza takeaway or a nice meal out, sauna or steam with a nice sports massage. Finished off with going home and seeing my family.

What are your main reasons for recommending Beet It Sport?

I love anything that can help me better myself as an athlete in a clean and legal way. Whether that’s more sleep, Epsom salt baths or Beet It. For what it does to the body internally is a huge benefit for anyone doing cardio sports.

Anything additional you would like to say about Beet It Sport?

I love the fact it comes in so many easy ways to consume and it’s able to give you such an edge and benefit all with natural ingredients, unlocking so much more in your own body!
