How Does It Work?

  • Beetroot juice is rich in natural dietary nitrate
  • Natural nitrate is converted to nitrite by bacteria on the tongue
  • As nitrate enters the bloodstream, it is converted to nitric oxide
  • Nitric oxide is a vasoldilator responsible for boosting blood flow, which increases blood supply to the working muscles, thereby enhancing endurance performance

In 1998, three scientists – R F Furchgott, L J Ignarro and F Murad – were awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery of the importance of nitric oxide.
